Samsung Sparks Anxiety at Google

But Mr. Rubin also said Samsung could become a threat if it gains more ground among mobile-device makers that use Android, the person said. Mr. Rubin said Google’s recent acquisition of Motorola Mobility, which makes Android-based smartphones and tablets, served as a kind of insurance policy against a manufacturer such as Samsung gaining too much power over Android, the person said. Google said Mr. Rubin wasn’t available for an interview.
I thought Motorola Mobility had to be run as a separate entity according to how Google justified the acquisition. I am not exactly sure how Motorola Mobility, who is still in the little leagues when looking at their phone shipment numbers let alone smartphone shipments, is an insurance policy against the #1 manufacturer of Android based smartphones in the world.
Google inherits a PC solution for the Post-PC era
I came across John Moltz’s post about the CNET Article titled “Meet Google’s secret weapon for fighting Apple and Microsft”. It was tough for me to figure out if I should be crying for or laughing at how misguided Motorola is. Motorola has created laptop and desktop computing systems that run off of a user’s docked Android phone. I kid you not. Here are some great bit of the CNET article.
